Acceptance Meaning
The word acceptance comes from the Latin word “aceptatio” which means to give consent, approve or admit. Examples: “I have obtained acceptance in my job application”, “the art exhibition was very well received”, “I accept that I was wrong”, “I will take into consideration the acceptance of your apologies”.
It can also be used in reference to accepting oneself with one’s defects and virtues, forgiving oneself, loving oneself as a being who is not perfect but perfectible, trying to improve but not living tormented by guilt. Accepting our weaknesses is the first step towards improvement.
It can also refer to a personal loss, such as the death of a loved one or the separation of a loved one. In this case, acceptance comes after grief, and now one must adapt to the new reality, with a different present to which one must adapt, and continue life with serenity, being able to enjoy daily joys again.
From a legal point of view, and in contractual matters, acceptance is a voluntary declaration of a unilateral nature, which confirms the legal transaction, given by the person who has received an offer to the offeror. For this reason it is receptive. The offer can also be accepted partially or with modifications, and this is called a counteroffer, which in turn will require the acceptance of the first offeror, now the recipient of this new offer. The acceptor can retract his acceptance as long as the offeror has not been informed of said acceptance. The subsequent retraction obliges the person who expected that the contractual execution would be a fact to compensate for the damages suffered.
In bills of exchange, before they are presented for collection, acceptance is required by the drawee, who is the third party obligated to make the payment.
