Fertilizer Meaning
A fertilizer is a substance that allows plants to grow with greater nutritional contributions and can also be a guarantee or partial payment made for continuous service.
Origin of the term
Abono is a word composed, in its first meaning, of two Latin words ad = “towards”, and bonus, as equivalent to good or beneficial; indicating a tendency towards the positive. Its first application was the improvement in the conditions in which medieval vassals lived with respect to their lords, at the end of that historical stage.
In this sense, it applies to the following situations:
a. Improve the soil with fertilizers, which are organic preparations that are a mixture of elements obtained from the degradation and mineralization of organic remains of animals, plants, and woody waste. These organic fertilizers raise the temperature of the soil, and that causes the formation and development of roots, which results in better and greater nutrition for the plants. Artificial fertilizers are those obtained by chemical reactions of inorganic substances, such as rocks, gases or salts. In both cases, fertilizers provide more nutrients to the soil or restore them.
b. When something or someone supports the statements of another, or gives them their trust or acts as a guarantor ; for example: “violence has increased in recent days, which has supported the idea that more investment is needed in security” or “Juan has supported Pedro’s theory, and his prestige has given greater validity to his arguments”; “His success is supported by his experience and ability.”
In a second meaning, it comes from the French word abonner, and in this sense it is used to refer to the payment made for an obligation: “He paid the debt in four installments” or “He paid late, so he must pay the interest” or “He paid the bail, and that allowed him to regain his freedom.” We also speak of a subscription when someone subscribes to a service, by paying a certain amount of money that must be delivered periodically (weekly, biweekly, annual subscription). Example: “I have a subscription to cell phone service, and I pay a monthly amount,” “I have a subscription to attend all the performances at the theater in my neighborhood.”
From an accounting perspective, it is used to record an item in someone’s favor in the accounting book.
